What is a Bernedoodle!?
A Bernedoodle simply put is the best of 2 amazing breeds combined! You get the fun-loving, intelligent, and carefree temperament of the poodle, but also the loyal, loving, and goofy traits of a Bernese Mountain Dog. Bernedoodles are great family dogs and enjoy interaction and time spent with their families. Similar to a basset hound-You know you will get a friendly and affectionate companion in a Bernedoodle.
What do Bernedoodles look like?
Bernedoodles come in different sizes! A standard Bernedoodle will usually be around 70 to 90 pounds, a mini Bernedoodle will usually weigh around 25 to 50 pounds, and a tiny Bernedoodle tends to top out around 10 to 24 pounds. Their coat can be a variety of colors since there are so many color variations in poodles. Tricolors with markings of a Bernese Mountain Dog are highly sought after but difficult to achieve in a breeding. Other colors can be black, black and white, or black and brown with various coat patterns possible such as merle, sable, phantom, and brindle. The coat can resemble more of a poodle coat with a wavy or curly coat and other times it is more straight. Due to a poodle-like coat they do require regular grooming and brushing to prevent matting.
Will they shed?
Bernedoodles have low to no shedding! They are also usually hypoallergenic which means they are great for families that have allergies and need a pet that has little to no dander!
What kind of health issues are common in Bernedoodles?
Cross-bred dogs, such as the bernedoodle, tend to be healthier dogs due to hybrid vigor. However, as with any breed, healthy issues can arise and can include predisposition to hip dysplasia, eye problems, and skin issues. Overall though bernedoodles tend to be very healthy and their life expectancy is between 12 and 18 years.. with the "tiny" bernedoodle usually living the longest.
Do they need grooming?
The short answer is YES! Their coats can be straight, wavy, or curly.. so the particular grooming needs may vary a bit overall but they will need bathing at least once every week or two. They will also need haircuts and nail trims on a regular basis. They enjoy frolicking and getting into dirt and such so keeping their hair trimmed, clean, and mat-free is a must!
How much do Bernedoodles cost?
Bernedoodles are usually priced based on their size and coloring. Our Bernedoodles are the miniature version (25-50 pounds). Depending on the coloring and markings they will range in price between $1200 and $2000. This is due to some colors being more sought after and more difficult to produce.
